Historical Field Notes
The outbreak has survived many treatments. Not because every treatment was useless, but because many treatments restored function without restoring consent.
If the treatment changes what drives you but does not give the wheel back, the infection remains.
Any tool can help when it restores consent. Any tool can become part of the outbreak when it replaces consent.

A cure that does not restore consent is not a cure. It is a strain transfer.
Symptom control is not the same as restored agency.
Did the Cure Restore Consent?
- Can the person witness what is moving in them?
- Can they say no to the force operating them?
- Can they choose a smaller, truer action?
- Can they remain connected without being controlled?
- Can they leave the cure without becoming unsafe to themselves?
- Does the cure increase contact with life, or replace it with a new loop?
If the answer is no, the cure may only be a strain transfer.

The Shame Cure

- If the person feels bad enough, they will stop.
- Observed Effect
- The visible behavior may stop, but the self goes underground.
- Failure Mode
- The self hides faster instead of becoming more available.
- Resulting Strain
- Shame Zombie
- Conclusion
- Shame creates compliance, not consent.
Shame can interrupt behavior, but it cannot restore the witness. It only teaches the person to hide from themselves faster.

The Control Cure
- Claim
- More rules, more discipline, more force.
- Observed Effect
- The zombie becomes organized.
- Failure Mode
- Order appears, but the person is still being operated.
- Resulting Strain
- Productivity Zombie, Authority Zombie, or Compliance Zombie
- Conclusion
- Control can produce order without agency.
A well-managed zombie is still not free.
The Certainty Cure
- Claim
- Give the person the right answer, model, ideology, doctrine, diagnosis, or explanation.
- Observed Effect
- Confusion decreases, but perception narrows.
- Failure Mode
- Explanation replaces contact.
- Resulting Strain
- Certainty Zombie

- Explanation can stop the shaking without restoring the witness.
Certainty feels like cure because it stops the shaking.

The Outrage Cure

- Convert helplessness into moral fire.
- Observed Effect
- Energy returns, but the person becomes recruitable by alarm.
- Failure Mode
- Activation is mistaken for agency.
- Resulting Strain
- Outrage Zombie

- Outrage can wake the body without giving the wheel back.
Outrage can wake the body, but it cannot steer the body unless witness returns.

The Productivity Cure
- Claim
- Become useful enough to outrun despair.
- Observed Effect
- The person functions better, but life becomes conditional on output.
- Failure Mode
- Performance replaces consent.
- Resulting Strain
- Productivity Zombie

- Function can improve while freedom stays offline.
Productivity is not agency if stopping feels like death.

The Self-Help Cure
- Claim
- Keep healing, learning, optimizing, preparing, and improving.
- Observed Effect
- The person becomes fluent in transformation language while postponing contact.
- Failure Mode
- Readiness replaces living.
- Resulting Strain
- Preparation Zombie

- A better self-improvement loop can still be a loop.
The Preparation Zombie does not eat brains. It feeds on permission.

The Belonging Cure

- Find the right group and the loneliness will end.
- Observed Effect
- The person receives identity, language, enemies, and belonging.
- Failure Mode
- Belonging replaces self-contact.
- Resulting Strain
- Herd Zombie, Authority Zombie, or Outrage Zombie
- Conclusion
- A room can feel like rescue while perception goes offline.
A horde can feel like home when the witness is offline.
The Romance Cure
- Claim
- Another person will make me whole.
- Observed Effect
- Attachment panic is temporarily soothed, then outsourced.
- Failure Mode
- Contact becomes possession, rescue, or control.
- Resulting Strain
- Relationship Zombie
- Conclusion
- Relief arrives, but the self is still not returned to itself.
Love cannot cure what the self is not allowed to witness.

The Algorithm Cure
- Claim
- Distract, soothe, stimulate, inform, optimize.
- Observed Effect
- The person is continuously state-managed from outside.
- Failure Mode
- Relief replaces choice.
- Resulting Strain
- Algorithm Zombie
- Conclusion
- The nervous system settles, but the feed still has the keys.
If the feed chooses your next feeling, it is not medicine. It is a remote control.

- Let the expert, leader, system, institution, or framework decide.
- Observed Effect
- The burden of choice decreases.

- Guidance replaces consent.

- Support can become substitution if the witness never comes online.
Good authority can support witnessing. Failed authority replaces it.
